Lent

Beginning with Ash Wednesday, Lent is a time of school-wide involvement in a journey toward Easter. There is a morning Mass on that day (Ash Wednesday) when ashes are distributed.

On each Wednesday during the season of Lent, as an act of sacrifice and awareness, children are asked to forgo snacks at the first recess. The Kindergarteners are exempt from our Lenten practice of no snacks. They are encouraged to participate through extra acts of kindness and prayer.

Mite boxes are also distributed to the children. These boxes serve as an opportunity to donate spare change to support the young men studying in the seminary to become priests.

On Holy Thursday, the school participates in a retreat that follows the significant events of Holy Week and in some years includes a Seder Meal.

During the season of Lent, we ask parents to remember that it is a time of solemn preparation for Easter, not an early celebration of Easter. Easter begins on Easter morning and classroom celebrations will occur during the forty day Easter Season that follows.
